Ingredients:
- 8 oz (225 g) tempeh, sliced
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or other sweetener
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra spicy flavor)
- 4 hamburger buns or sandwich bread
- Lettuce leaves and sliced tomatoes, for serving
Procedure:
- In a medium bowl, prepare the marinade by combining BBQ sauce, olive oil, soy sauce, maple syrup (or other sweetener), garlic powder, paprika, cumin, and cayenne pepper (if desired).
- Place the tempeh slices in the marinade and gently toss to ensure they are well coated. Let the tempeh marinate for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Preheat a grill pan or a regular grill to medium heat. Brush the grill or grill pan with a little oil to prevent the tempeh from sticking.
- Grill the tempeh slices for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they have a nice grilled surface and are heated through.
