Acai Smoothie: A Delicious and Healthy Recipe

It has everything that’s great about the smoothie bowl, but in a simple and portable form. You don’t have to worry about it melting in the bowl while you try to arrange toppings with your best artistic flair. Just put it in a glass and slurp with a straw! This Brazilian bowl is one of my favorite treats, and I was happy to find a fun new way to enjoy it. Here’s what you need to know!

What is acai, anyway?

Açaí is a berry that grows on palm trees in Brazil. (How do you pronounce acai? Say “ah-sah-EE”.) This beautiful purple berry has taken off in worldwide popularity as a health food moment. Acai berries have an impressive healthy profile, filled with antioxidants and nutrients. But remember, they are also as nutritious as easily accessible fruits like blueberries.

Ingredients for an acai smoothie

This acai smoothie is very easy to make, once you have found your acai pulp! Here’s what you need:

  • Acai pulp: See above! You can find this in the freezer section near the fruit in your local grocery store or online.
  • Lime juice: Gives just the right “zing” to the taste.
  • Frozen pineapple chunks: Enhances the acai berries with tropical flavor and sweetness.
  • Fresh or frozen mango: Adds a similar flavor. It’s important to add naturally sweet fruit because the berries are naturally tart.
  • Banana: Adds a final touch of sweetness and a creamy texture.


  1. Start by preparing the acai pulp according to the package instructions.
  2. Add the acai pulp to a blender along with lime juice, frozen pineapple chunks, fresh or frozen mango, and banana.
  3. Blend everything together in the blender until you have a smooth and even consistency.
  4. Pour the smoothie into glasses and serve!
